Science Week 2020

8th -15th of November 2020

We all had a very busy week learning about many different aspects of science and we had lots of fun while doing so.

The juniors helped make a bubbling ‘magic’ potion, did experiments with floating fruit and gummy bears and also had to design and build a raft to transport the 3 Billy Goat’s Gruff.

The senior room students explored forces, air pressure and the reaction of acids & alkali. Their experiments included building a hydraulic lift, ‘Walking on Air’, an exploding lunch bag and using red cabbage to dye clothing.

Happy Halloween.

First term over and everyone is delighted to be heading off for our mid term break to have a well deserved rest after all the hard work.

We had a fantastic parade of Halloween costumes today and although we had to improvise and find new ways to celebrate we all had a really good day. Congratulations to our winners for best costume. Check out our gallery page to see all the costumes.

Students of the Month September 2020

Well done to everyone who worked so hard since returning to school. We held our first socially distanced award ceremony for our Students of the Month. Congratulations to our worthy winners.

Welcome Back

After 6 weeks of settling back into school life we are happy to say that everyone seems to be enjoying being back in the classroom – students and teachers alike.

We are very proud of the way the children have adapted to the new way of doing things and are quickly making up for lost time.

We were delighted to say a big welcome to our six new junior infants who joined us this year and we also welcomed four other new students to various other classes in the school. To you all we say ‘Céad Míle Fáilte’ and we hope that you all enjoy your time with us here at Scoil Mhuire.

Say hello to our Junior Infants 2020…..

Schools out for Summer!

19th of June 2020 was officially the last day of our school year and the start of our summer holidays. As the children couldn’t be at school for this special occasion we decided we would bring the celebration to their homes – all 26 of them!

Fr Pat started the day off by celebrating mass for all three mainland schools in the parish, which we were able to watch via the ‘magic’ of the internet. The teachers and staff then set off on a tour of The Rosses in a bid to visit every one of our students and wish them a happy summer, present certificates, deliver party bags and of course to say a proper farewell to our 6th class students.

It was a very special day and we were given a lovely welcome everywhere we went, although some students were surprised and overcome with shyness at the appearance of their teachers 🙂 We hardly recognised a lot of them as they had grown so much since we last saw them.

We had 5 students who received certificates for 100% attendance – well done: Shauna, Oisín, Jimmie Joe, Eli & Robyn.

IT’S NOT GOODBYE – IT’S JUST FAREWELL…..

It was especially poignant to see all our 6th class students who will be moving on to secondary school in September. They were such a vibrant, energetic and creative group of young people whose presence will certainly be missed and we want to wish them all every success in future.
