On Tuesday 9th of February the children enjoyed the first of a series of visits to our school by Heritage expert Aengus. On this occasion we learnt all about Spring and spent some time building birds nests. More photographs of the day are on view in our gallery page.

Celebrating Grandparents Day
Monday the 1st of February is the feast of St. Brigid and this year we also celebrated Grandparents Day on that date, as part of Catholic Schools Week. The day started with mass in St. Mary’s church after which we were joined in the school by lots of parents and grandparents to make St. Brigid’s Crosses, which were later blesses by Fr. Ward. After a very productive hour of weaving rushes into beautiful crosses of all shapes and sizes there was lots of delicious home-baking for everyone to enjoy with their cup of tea! See our gallery for more photographs.
Scoil Mhuire does Strictly :)
On Thursday 17th December we had our Christmas Show, which was a huge success. The first half of our show was our take on Strictly Come Dancing. As well as some fantastic group dances we had some very brave and talented students who danced as couples much to the delight of our audience. The second half had a bit of variety with some fun songs, a Nativity Sketch with a difference and a lovely selection of Christmas songs to finish off. Thank you to all the children for their hard work and practice in putting this show together and a big thank you to everyone who came along to see the show. See our gallery for lots of photographs from the night.
The Belcruit Buzz
With the help of Ms Laura Houston and Mrs. Emily Bonar the children in the senior class have begun publishing a monthly magazine called The Belcruit Buzz. It is a mixture of school news, short stories, educational articles and puzzles. Priced at €1 per copy, it can be purchased from the pop up shop in the school and in local outlets. The children also sold magazines at the Christmas Fair and at our school concert. The very first copy was bought by Fr. Pat Ward.

Delivery of our National Flag
On Friday 9th of October we welcomed 3 members of the Irish Army to our school. Captain Bridget Clarke along with Neil Mc Bride and Denis Kelly came to present us with our National Flag. The short ceremony included the reading of an extract of the Irish Proclamation of 1916 by Lexie. Daisy accepted the flag from Neil Mc Bride on behalf of the school and Seamus was presented with a special pack which included a copy of the 1916 proclamation and a certificate for the school. Captain Clarke explained to the children about the work of the Irish Army and she then asked some questions about Easter 1916 and the National flag, which the students had no trouble answering as they have been learning all about it in class. The ceremony finished with a rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann.
