Like many special events and occasions over the past year we didn’t get to celebrate World Book Day as we normally would. The senior class however did mark the day by recreating the covers of some of their favourite books:

Usually on Pancake Tuesday we would have our annual ‘Pancake Eating Competition’ hosted by our Parents Association however due to Covid 19 closure we had to make our own and enjoy them at home 😉

Introducing our first recipients of Student of the Month awards for 2021.

Well done to everyone who has worked so hard and engaged brilliantly with online learning but special congratulations go to……..

It seems we have a lot of budding designers, architects and engineers among us. The children were set a building challenge by their teachers and we were very impressed by the results.

The junior classes were tasked with designing/building a Dolls House: Nice work boys and girls, maith sibh.

The students in the senior room were given a story about how the Three Little Pigs took pity on the Big Bad Wolf during lockdown and decided to build him a house, the children then had to design and build a house for the wolf. Their houses had to include an element of ‘Green Energy’ such as wind or solar power and they did not disappoint. They really immersed themselves in the challenge and came up with some wonderful models. Well done everyone.

It was so nice to see the variety of ideas and materials used, no two houses were the same and the children really showed how they can adapt and make use of what they have at home. See our gallery page for more photographs from this challenge.

Some lovely Valentines cards and pictures from our little buddies in Miss Comack’s class. How lovely to see all your beautiful designs, they really helped to brighten up lockdown.

While we did not have the start to 2021 that we wanted and find ourselves once again in lockdown we would still like to wish you all the very best for the year ahead. We can only hope that this will be the last time our school has to close for anything other than holidays and fun times.

Although we are missing you all very much we are very happy to see that you are all working very hard at home and keeping up with your lessons. We look forward to our google meet sessions as it gives us chance to catch up with your news. A big thank you to all the Mums, Dads, Grannies, Grandads and anyone else who is helping out with homeschooling – hopefully it won’t be for too much longer.

Now that Spring is here we can enjoy longer, brighter evenings which means you have more time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Don’t forget to look out for daffodils, snowdrops, frogspawn, baby lambs and all the other signs of new life that Spring brings.

Lots of you welcomed in Spring by making St. Bridget’s crosses. Not everyone was able to get rushes this year and so we were especially glad to see how some of you improvised and used your imagination to make your own versions of the St Bridget’s Cross.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and every good wish for 2021. It has been a very difficult year in many respects but we are so proud of our fantastic students who have adapted so well to the new way of doing things in these strange times.

We hope you all enjoy a nice Christmas with your families and we look forward to welcoming you all back in 2021.

Well done to our last students of the month for 2020. Hope the hard work continues into 2021.

In memory of Patsy Walsh our old friend and long time caretaker at Scoil Mhuire, Belcruit. Patsy always took great pride in his work here in the school and we enjoyed lots of laughs along the way. May he Rest in Peace.
